2024 cap update, bad and the bad

This is a follow up to my earlier post in this thread on my adventure in cap buying and ‘selling’. Basic summary is that I purchased all of a local WallyWorld’s percussion caps (1000 caps) when by pure sh1t luck I got ahead of a local ‘reseller’.

The update. Recently went to a local gun show with a group at club I belong to. And just as an FYI, most every gunshow with a100 mile plus radius is the same group of trinket and Slim Jim sellers. Back to the adventure. Took a sleeve of RWS caps (2500) and 10 tins of CCIs (1000) with me. The previously mentioned ‘reseller’ had caps at $40 per 100 on his table, but appeared to be ready to ‘deal’. Short story, asked what he would pay for 3500 caps. Without hesitation he offered $0.05 per cap. $175 for the 3500 caps I had with me. I countered with $1000, and he said I was crazy, raising his offer to $200. Said he needed room to make a profit. Heard his female troll (assumption on my part with the gender) say under her breath ‘we can’t sell the ones we have now’. I made sure he knew I had the caps and moved on.

Yep, leave some caps for the next buyer. And no good deed at WallyWorld goes unpunished……

Unfortunately, what @PastorBobserved is likely very common to occur. Took grief here for previously posting what is below, but I beat a known local WallyWorld Scalper (he has actually told the clerks what he was doing) to 10 packs of CCI caps last summer. Confirmed later at a local gun show the guy was stocked up and selling caps and other WallyWorld items at 5x or greater the WallyWorld price.

Previously posted. This past July a guy in front of me at the WallyWorld sporting goods counter said he wanted all the caps that were available and they rang him up. Then my old friend karma showed up. The customer’s plastic didn’t work for some reason. Told the clerk he had to go find his wife and get the checkbook. The clerk then asked what I wanted and I pointed at the caps, and she said how many? I asked about the previous customer, and she told me he buys stuff all the time to sell at gun shows and not to worry. I felt a little guilty as I paid for all ten packs, but that went away as I was leaving the counter and saw the other customer headed back with his checkbook in hand. I didn’t really need caps that day, but that’s 10 packs some scalper will not be selling. And they won’t go to waste.

It’s just easier to give someone a tin of caps when they need them and tell them not to worry about paying me when I have less than $6 into replacements instead of $35 or so. Doesn’t change my appreciation of the thank you I get. And when it involves getting a kid shooting it really feels good.
Great! Ha!

I saw those. They have free shipping with a code. I'm considering getting 2 tins of the hotter caps, but I'm having a hard time wanting to spend $100 for 500 caps. ($37.99 x 2 plus $22.95 for hazmat)

If you guys in the middle of the country can wait I am sure there are going to be caps at Friendship this year

I just saw these at Rual king in Kokomo indiana yesterday. Have no ideal if they could work on a real BP gun. Would have bought some to try if I had a need for caps or had some kid to give them to if they didn't work

Like Many of you, I'm old enough to have been through this manure TWICE before. Learned 2 rules: Keep more than plenty of all Possibles on hand. And I don't own a gun that I don't reload for.( I reload for more than 60 cals.} I don't reload for Rimfire. When people start in about the cost of Rimfires. I tell them they need to buy an AIR GUN. I can Hunt any small game and run My Trapline with my Air Rifle. And there has Never been any shortage of Air or Pellets. I get a few funny looks ,until I show them that you can knock over a empty 12 ga casing at 75 yds.& shoot though both sides or a bean can at 50 yds. I can Scratch my Shooting Itch Any time Very cheaply. I ain't talking about your Daisy Rough rider. my Rifle cost just under $200. Then when I pick up one of my Firearms, I don't go through as many Possibles, With better results. It's very Practical practice for My ML's as I don't shoot deer at more than 75 rds.....Be Safe>>>>>>>>Wally

I watched that video, and i disagree with one thing he said. Ethan said if you were in Walmart and saw some caps, to just buy a few tins, and leave the rest for some other fellas. Well, that is a nice gesture, and it is exactly what I did last fall. I got plenty of caps, so I just got 3 tins for $5.62, leaving 17 on the hook. Not 30 secinds later, a low grade poltroon that I recognize from his table at the local gun shows, swoops in and takes all the remaining caps. Saw him in December selling those caps for $35 per 100. I should have bought them all and gave them away, and that is exactly what i will do next time. Buy caps when you can, and pass them out to your muzzleloading friends. If you don't, those scurvy buzzards are surely going to, and they will sell them for 700% mark-up.
If you don’t exhaust the on hand supply, the puter doesn’t reorder! Also, no room for nice guys regarding caps.

I was on the range firing my .45 Caplock pistol for about three hours before someone actually asked me where I was getting all of the caps. And then noticed mine were Aluminum.

I just donated some #11s to the local 4H black powder club. They have agreed to do a shooting demonstration for my wife's Daughters of the American Revolution group. I bought 25 tins total from several Walmarts last fall for $5.62ea. They are $9.99 now at the gun store where I shop. They mostly shoot cap locks but some of my friends and I will bring the flintlock guns for the ladies to shoot also. They had a ball last year when we did this and wanted to make it an annual shoot where they can bring their husbands. Many are going to dress in Revolutionary War era clothing.

Cabelas, now Bass Pro Shop, has CCI #11 caps for 129.00. With ship-to-store option there is no hazmat either. A good option if you have a store reasonably close.

I ordered 2 tins of the 250 count RWS plus and was able to use the free shipping Powder valley was offering with the free shipping code FBFS24. Past threads about those RWS caps people are saying they are 10 and 1/2 size. I know on my Crockett .32 #11's are a little loose. These may be a bit tighter on the nipple. Looking forward to giving them a try on the Crockett when they come in. I'll be using Pyrodex P in the crockett so those plus caps should easily ignite the Pyrodex.

Ditto on air guns, I swear they are the future. I know for sure I would not wanna be on the receiving end of my pistol.

I love my air guns almost as much as muzzleloaders. I built a few PCP guns using high pressure tubes pumped to 3000psi. They shoot a .28grain .25cal pellet at 900fps for 50.37fpe. I would not like to be hit with one of those either. They will take out even a groundhog size pest with one shot if you hit a vital area and at a reasonable distance. Kentucky Gun Company stores in Bardstown and Louisville Ky usually have caps for instore sales only. The web site will tell if they are in stock. Great if you live or visit in the area. $9.99ea for #11, $10.99 for Magnum.
