Question for you guys who know Bobby Hoyt-
Can he rifle a smooth bore barrel without lining it?

Like lets say you have a Charleville or Brown Bess and you want caliber to stay the same just be rifled, will he do that?

Thanks

I hope he lives a good long while, he has two of my smoothbore barrels that are between 150-200 years old. Talked with him in January and sent the barrels to be reamed out nice and smooth for my next projects of a caliver matchlock and a trade gun. He did mention that he had sent several barrels that were completed to their owners and was having a time getting payment from some of them, so I sent a check to cover the reaming and shipping back to me. He is a very honest and trusting soul.

I've been to his shop (more than once)and if you don't get HIM before the machines start you must leave a message . HE IS A MASTER CRAFTSMAN , and a fine person he will give you an honest opinion, a great barrel at more than fair price. He is very busy but will always make time for you when he catches up with his work load.View attachment 287551

Do check the address because I think he moved and one of them is no longer valid.
2379 Mt. Hope Rd.
Fairfield, PA 17320
This is the new address that he told me to send my barrels to.

If you know what you done as in a barrel rebore Etc. just pack it up and send it to him with message saying what you'd like. When it's ready he'll call you.

I recently heard that Mr. Hoyt is not taking on any more work until the fall.

I think it also depends on what you need done. Mine was a smoothbore ream which is not as involved as some of the other options he offers such as rifling. He told me to send it to him and he would get to it soon since it wasn't as involved and it would be a month or so before I would get it back. Patiently waiting.

Well I got my two barrels back from Mr. Hoyt and was very sad. The note he wrote said the one barrel was too pitted to ream out? and he said the other had a hole where the first lug was. To be honest I think he just looked at them and took my check and cashed it, they were the same as when they left my house. I got charged $165 for him to look down the barrel and say its no good. I have yet to contact him as we all know he is very hard to get a hold of but I will try but I feel like I got reamed and not my barrels.
