I bought this flint kit for a iron mounted Southern rifle last year and didn't receive the curly maple stock until June. Just now getting time enough to get back to work on it.
I did have to change the breech plug to one I had on hand with a wider tang because the stock came semi inletted and to much wood had been removed in the tang mortise. Have the sights dovetailed, breech fit, tenon staples peened and sweated in place and just last night fit the three wedges through the stock and staples. So far so good with good tight fits. Will inlet the lock plate tonight.
I did make a new flash hole liner as I do not care for the coned white lighting liners that direct the chamber pressure out ward. The one I built is made just the opposite with the funnel on the exterior directing the pan flash inward. The interior surface of the liner will be reamed to the same I.D. as the barrel groove diameter for a flush fit with no exposed corners to hook fouling. The first half inch or so of the barrel ahead of the plug will be reamed to groove diameter as well so as to remove the rifling in the powder chamber area to facilitate cleaning.
