Kentucky rifle 2 piece stock mod suggestions

In my work we called it celebrating the joint, as opposed to hiding it.
If it was a gun for Buffalo Bill you could reach for Abalone shell. Similar to pearl handle revolvers.
Not that I would on my own gun :barf:

I fought the brass spacer years ago, and tried to use a wood spacer. Anyhow, it was just a failure for me, and have learned to just live with the spacer. I would suggest just leaving it, and age other parts on the rifle. Brown the barrel, antique the stock. I striped one of my CVA Kentuckys and really like it.

What did it start out as?
Did you use leather dye and a brush for the stripes?
What kind of finish did you put over the dried striping?

You can use the stock provided and get rid of the brass spacer by joining the stock together, a little effort on your part but "IT IS YOUR GUN" so dont let anyone talk you out of it if you decide to go down that road.

From all the looking around and reading here and there, That there rifle looks more representative of what actually was carried by mountain men in the early days of the period. A Trade rifle, Not the "Hawkens" everyone thinks.

All it needs is a rock Lock!

It started out as a Uberti rifle. I browned the barrel and the lock. I wrapped copper electrical wire around the stock, and used a torch to make the stripes. I only use Laurel Mountain Forge for finishes. There stuff is top notch!

Now that, is a beautiful rifle. Great job. Really like the striping/aging work. Blends together perfectly....
