Finally giant hogs showing up

Finally got some big boars coming back in. These are some of the biggest hogs I've seen in over 35 years of hunting them

I really wish there was somewhere in West Texas where I could hunt hogs without having to pay a small fortune to do it. There aren't any in SE Arizona yet and West Texas is not too far away. You'd think that with all the problems the hogs are causing Texas ranchers would be paying me to come over and kill a few.

They look healthy, hard to say maybe 320lb. We took one Saturday about 240. Good eats.

Well go out and get some of them mini desert hogs (javelinas) to make up for it.

Feral hogs are certainly known to sometimes get truly huge and gnarly. Those photos go to prove just how big and gnarly they can get.

I did just that. I got the one little javelina that the law allows. It was a fun hunt for about a 30 pound animal. Since I'm a meat hunter I'd much rather bag a 150 pound hog or two. Javelina is good but the feral hog meat I've eaten is better.

It is my understanding javelina are not really pig or hogs but a species to themselves. If any show up in my neck of the woods I'll research it.

You're right. They are a Collard Peccary and not a pig. I've seen a Tee shirt or poster with a picture of a javelina and the caption "Don't call me a pig!"

I agree Crisco. Ranchers are even charging a huge fee to come hunt their prairie dogs. They should allow it for free and maybe pay for the shooters bullets.

I would disagree with the shooters bullets, but it should be free. It’s hard to make a dollar on trapping pork, they usually want to charge for it. Especially trophy pigs, this is for free to get the land owner to understand but he’s not willing to pay. I could easily take 100 a year off this property but he would rather have field damage.

I shot the one called hippo, bus and razor in the last week but they were not black powder kills they were with the Matthews No-cam i didnt want to take a chance and scaring them off with the smoke pole these are some of the largest pigs ive ever taken. me and my son decidede its gotten to hot as well 13 hrs in the blind last week was suffocationg we are gonna start gar fishing

It’s always hot in Florida we are running in the low 90* now. As of now we are a snare state, so there’s no wasting time in the blind. Just processing.

A friend of mine goes somewhere down in oklahoma and the rancher pays for their bullets. He's fortunate

You are correct Rifleman, they are a species of their own. Some people think they are rodents but they are not, neither they are pigs, but they make a good choice of meat to mix with venison for sausages and other ground meat products. I have killed many of them and the meat is good but I agree with other that hogs are better meat, can’t beat bacon!!!! Last time I hunted in TX and AZ there were 2 allowed per license year. I believe their real name is “white collared peccary”. In Peru they have been domesticated.
