Thank you all for the help! I’m going to get it tomorrow! What all do I need for a shotgun? I’ve only used muzzle loading rifles and know nothing

Navy Arms once upon a time offered their plain jane 12 gauge with a set of the 14" as well as 28" double barrels. Real hard to find if such things are of interest.

To start, read the sticky notes at the top of the Smoothbore Forum. There are also two topics in the General Muzzleloading Forum, Tables and Information. One is the second topic and the other is at the bottom of the list.

For a more independent look at what you need look up Bob Spence's Black Powder Notebook. @George has been commenting and now can direct you to his Notebook.

Actually, @Brianc, you probably have most of what you need other than a cleaning jag/loading jag for a 12 gauge bore. Wads can be made from brown paper bag straps of 1" by 3". Crumple the strips and fold into 1" squares. Use 2 squares over your (I recommend 2Fg powder)powder and 1 over the shot which may be hard to find. Small game, 7 1/2 and 4 for turkey. That should get you out in the field or squirrel woods.

I've had a gun like that since 1982-83 and have always been very pleased with it. The drop and trigger pull are just what I need. Shouldered quickly it lines up right on the bead for me. I've had very good results hunting bumped rabbits and passing doves with it.

I have no idea about a reasonable value for the gun in today's world.

CVA'S are going north of $600.00 +. I have a kit one that is 42 yrs old and is still going strong. and I won't sell it .

I’ll get some pictures in the morning thank you all for the assistance !

Good morning Guys,
I just bought the same shotgun, and am waiting delivery.
Years ago, I had a Navy Arms double 12 ( Pietta ) loved it, but foolishly traded it away, looknig for greater ventures. It didn't happen.
Now in my senior years, I look forward to some serious shotgun shooting, and the Pietta double 12 will fill the bill.
I have large coveys of woodcock in the field next to the house, an turkeys by the dozen everywhere. Sadly grouse are like virgins, we have heard of them, but actually have never seen one.
By all means I do suggest getting that scattergun. There is so much you can do with it. From #8 shot for doves & squirrels, to #2 &4 for turkey, #6 & 7 1/2 for grouse and pheasant, to round ball ( pumpkin balls ) for deer.
With practice you can hit a melon at sixty yards easy.
These past years I have been using a fine old British double 12 with great joy, but have great concerns to causing damage with a valuable gun out in the field.
The Pietta will do just fine,
Brianc if you spend the time, you won't regret your purchase. It is an entirely different journey than with a muzzle loading rifle.
Do get a gods shooting bag for your shotgun, you will need it, and it is differently outfitted than a rifle bag. October Country has some good ones.

In my pawn shop travels I picked up a brass shot flask that the measure on the spout is in drams, the store owner gave me a ton of unmentionable type paper hulled stuff that he’s afraid to use so I think I’m able to break those apart for their shot. What about the old felt wads ? Can they be ran through this muzzle loader?

I have a Pietta Navy Arms double. Had it converted to flint, and both barrels jug choked (mod and improved). Fun gun to shoot. Got the gun for I think $250 about 20 years ago, then got it converted.

How does cleaning one of these differ from a muzzle loading rifle? Can I use a kit for modern or do I need to wait till track of the wolf order shows up? I use dawn and hot water then flush with hot water dry and oil on others and check in a day or 2 maybe add a little oil anti seize nipple threads and store
