I don't know too much about the Spanish Jukar rifles, but the fellow who reads our gas meter knows I shoot and build ML's and stopped by the house today with the drum from a Jukar rifle and was wondering where he could get a new one. It's one of those that thread in all the way across the breech and has a hole drilled at 90 degrees to the cleanout parallel to the bore. I didn't have the time to check the threads, but I'm assuming that they're metric. Is there anyone selling these? I could turn him a new one, but I would have to use US dies which would mean the hole in the barrel would have to be reamed and re-threaded. I'm not real crazy about making a new part for a rifle of already questionable quality. But if I can find a supplier that sells the right parts, that would be great. He talked like he would like to use a standard drum that just goes in to the bore, not all the way across. I'm not sure that would be a good idea in this case. What do you Jukar shooters think? If it wasn't for a liability issue, I'd probably be better off turning one myself. But that issue is why I'd rather find him a factory drum. Thanks.

About the only place that would sell a drum like that is Deer Creek in Indiana.

They can supply replacement breeched barrels but it is my understanding that they refuse to sell any of the individual parts like the drum.

Liability issues, like you say.

Deer Creek will not sell the drum, and they will tell you so with a firm tone.
I believe Deer Creek will install a new drum "as factory spec" for a reasonable fee, (?)

There are two available from TOW, one drilled for the nipple and one with no nipple hole that you have to drill yourself;
They are, 12.5mm diameter, 10-1.25mm thread http://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/809/2/DRUM-CVA

And here's how they fit.

I've replaced a few using the predrilled and took material off the shoulder to get the nipple to line up right.

Thanks fellers. I checked Dixie but they didn't show it in their catalogue. This is the same breech as the one in a Traditions mountain rifle I picked up at a flea market (hey $25 is pretty good even for junk, may be able to use the hardware and even the barrel after re-breeching). On the one I picked up, someone had replaced the drum with a standard type.

I can tell him to contact Deer Creek and have the drum replaced by them or I can make one which wouldn't be hard except I don't have any metric taps or dies. But I'm concerned about making parts for this gun not knowing its condition or the loads he'll be using. I get a leetle nervous doing these things for people I don't know that well. Those lawyers just love people like us. Thanks again!

Actually, I believe he said something about wanting a standard drum for it. They're much easier to find, but in this kind of breech it will be harder to clean and the breech won't be quite as strong.

Wise thinking.
Just give him a list of possible suppliers and let him do the leg work. Or suggest he has a nice wall hanger.

If it is for someone else, liability wise, be best to send it to Deer Creek & have them install a drum, especially if you have never done it or don't have the proper tooling to do it precisely. IMHO.

Oh I can do it with no problem if I wanted to buy a metric die or re-drill the breech for standard threads. I'm just concerned about repairing a gun of questionable quality and condition for liability reasons.

Well, I think I've got him on the right track. What had happened was the nipple had blown out of the drum and boogered the threads. He stopped today and I told him about Deer Creek &c. and he didn't want to go that route. He said he'd like to use the same drum so I gave him a new nipple and wrote down what size tap and drill he needed to rework what he had. We got a new gas meter and regulator, he got a nipple and directions and we parted rejoicing.
