    Long Rifle ?

I'm wondering about the prevalence of long rifles further north - specifically in Canada. Were they ever popular among citizens of Ontario? It seems likely, being as Southern Ontario is more or less surrounded by US territories.

    Rebarreling a smoothbore "Baker Rifle"

Thanks for the advice. I'll look for one on The Gun Works, I suppose. I'm about 5'10 and 160lbs, so from the sound of things, the Baker might yet fit me alright. I'll have to give it a try!

    Rebarreling a smoothbore "Baker Rifle"

I keep looking at the parts kits from The Rifle Shoppe, wanting so badly to own a Baker rifle. The problem is that I don't have the skill to finish a parts kit like theirs, so I'd have to have it assembled for me. Then I have to have it shipped to Canada. That all makes it more expensive than...

    Wheellocks in Graz Museum

I've been to this museum. The collection is flat-out amazing. I have never seen anything like it.

    Jaeger Shooters

I spend part of each year in Berlin, so my German is okay. English or not, I'll DEFINITELY get my hands on a copy of that book! Looking at it now, it seems like a great recommendation. Thanks again.

    Jaeger Shooters

Yeah, don't worry, I definitely wasn't about to go for the Pedersoli one. It just doesn't seem right to me. Also, I'd be looking for .62 or so. I will follow the advice given here, maybe see about having a builder do a kit or something. Thanks guys!

    Jaeger Shooters

Bringing this thread up to the top again... I have done a lot of reading on the Jaeger rifles, but I have had some difficulty finding shops for them online that won't cost an arm and a leg. I know TOTW has a kit, but beyond that, the only thing I have seen is the Pedersoli Jaeger. According...

    Asking for advice -Lyman TR

I've recently (last month) acquired a new-to-me Lyman TR, and... the gun is just fantastic. You'd be nuts not to get one. This is my first flintlock, and the thing is just great fun. You can't go wrong!

First flintlock - Lyman TR. Questions...

Thanks, Paul, I'll keep that in mind. I'll check it again in a few days. Seems like the bore butter is doing the trick at the moment.

First flintlock - Lyman TR. Questions...

So I took it out to shoot again on Tuesday, and before I took it out, I ran a dry patch down to check for rust. It came up with pretty thick rust outlining the rifling grooves! I guess the Bore Shine isn't as much of a rust inhibitor as claimed. This time, after I cleaned it, I ran a...

First flintlock - Lyman TR. Questions...

Onjuatta ”“ I hope to maybe take it out tomorrow and try to work up a load in the 65 - 80 grain range. Zoar ”“ yeah, it's definitely a ton of fun! Feels very satisfying when it goes off. I didn't figure I'd get solid, instant ignition each of the first three times I shot it! Walks with fire...

First flintlock - Lyman TR. Questions...

Hi Paul, I haven't been around that long, I don't think the Bore Shine is a petroleum-based oil, though. I don't have the bottle handy at the moment, but I don't intend to be putting any petroleum-based oils through the gun.

First flintlock - Lyman TR. Questions...

Zoar: Yep, I certainly did enjoy it. Feels very, VERY different from a centrefire or rimfire. I'm obsessive about cleaning things like that, so I probably will go to the same lengths each time. I take extremely good care of my Chek-Mate Hunter I recurve bow as well! Paul: When you say you...

First flintlock - Lyman TR. Questions...

Thanks for the heads up on the alcohol. I almost used some today, until I realized I had the Bore Shine. Seems like the Bore Shine works like WD-40 in terms of displacing water.

First flintlock - Lyman TR. Questions...

So, I took it out today! Just went down to the woods, and so I only fired off three shots (don't want to disturb the neighbours too much). This is the first time I've fired a muzzleloader (and, truth be told, the first time I've fired ANY firearm in quite a few years). Ignition: super-fast...
