Putting my Enfield up for sale. .58 caliber (.577) actual bore diameter. Bore is excellent with no pitting. This is the 1858 Naval rifle. Higher skirmish sight put on.
Tack driver with the .576 Hodgdon minie. Rifle is in excellent 98% condition.
Pics aren't the best, looks better in person.

The sights on a lot of military guns are set for "battle distance". Somewhere around 250yds. or so. That allows a center hold on a man out to that distance or a bit farther. If you don't raise the front sight to make the gun hit lower for normal range shooting, it will shoot over a 100yd. target.
 
Wow yea the why wasn't really the question. The how has been answered though. I have never seen someone use epoxy like that before.
 
We use it all the time on our Skirmish guns. Some use solder. Thanks for your interest
