It was just back in 1990 that I bought powder for $3.00 a pound in Winchester VA. (5 lb lots) Today's prices are outrageous.

Today's prices ARE outrageous. I still remember buying black (by the can) for $0.90 and later when it rocketed up to $1.10 a can.

Kinda doesn't surprise me. If anything the price seems a little "high" for the time. In the middle 1960's I bought 200 pounds of surplus 4831 smokeless powder for 50 cents a pound.

Who knows. We never heard of such things then, and I think that even today it applies only to black powder.

subvert what out in the wilds? Illinois limits us to 5 lb of the black and 25 of the smokeless. You also need a Firearms Owners Identification card to purchase BP and caps or any amo. I recall as I child going to buy my parents smokes and bullets with just a note for the first time I had to do this. We have sure made this place stupid. I bought what I can hold last year glad I did.
