Hi all, my name is Nicole and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area in California.
I learned to shoot muzzle-loading black powder rifles in October 2008, from a group of very knowledgeable & friendly men in San Luis Obispo. I was educated on the handling, loading and shooting of both caplocks and flintlocks.

Before I learned to shoot black powder guns, I learned to shoot modern rifles, so by the time I started shooting muzzle-loaders it wasn't scary... even with the disconcerting first flash of the flint!

I currently am searching for the right Brown Bess to buy. I'm a somewhat petite girl ("average" height & weight), so I'm wondering if a full Brown Bess is a good idea, given my size! :haha: Whatever I end up buying, it's important to me to find a Rev War era gun.

Additionally, I am actively seeking to join a Rev War Reenactment British regiment in my area and/or the Sacramento area. The 1700-1800's is my favorite historic era, and I'm eager to get involved any way I can. A couple of the recruitment officers have been so kind as to get back to me, but I feel it never hurts to network as much as possible! So I'm sneaking in word here, too.

See you around the boards!

Welcome Nicole, always good to hear from the distaff side! I don't shoot a Bess anymore so can't help you there, but I would think that if you can hold the gun that you can shoot it. See if you can contact someone in your area and shoot one so you can make the decision. Shoot a moderate load, no magnum charges! Good luck in your venture. Emery

Nicole,
Welcome to the ML Forum. I'm about 125 miles inland from ya. Good to hear that you're interested in the 18th Century. Don't know of any Rev War groups but you would do good to find one and possibly handle more firearms before you make a decision to buy. GW

Greeting.

I used to hang out with the 77th Regiment of Foot, 1st Highland Battalion (Montgomery Highlanders). Their contact info is on the link. Hugh and James are good folks.

usa based brit units.

It was by sheer chance! I felt bad for Roger -- everyone was picking on him, but it was all in good fun & he seemed quite used to it! They were certainly a mischievous lot!! :youcrazy: ...I'd hang out with them again in a heartbeat.
