Born and raised a Florida Cracker, I dreamed of owning a Brown Bess from the days when our TV was black and white. In those days we never heard of replica muzzle loaders. Now 70 or so years later, I am thrilled to own two original Besses and a Charleville. My pride is a rare James Barbar Bess. When I hold this fantastic piece of history I close my eyes and try to absorbe any stories it may transmit to me.
It is truly humbling to know that after more than 300 years the quality workmanship of Mr. Barbar still shines through. And before I shuffle off this Mortal Coil, I will shoot it.
God bless our guns.
