For 599.00, is this a good buy? I sure like the looks of this one!

I had one of them and it was a good shooter. Lock sparked good although it was kind of rough on flints. A lot better made than the India Besses. Not a bad price for one either.

Actually you would be surprized how well it does with that short barrel. It isn't a long range gun by any means, but out to 40-50 yds it does ok with balls and out to 20 yds it is fine with shot. At least the one i had was.

I see now the sale is Pending, did you buy it? If not and you don't have your heart set on a Bess and just want a smoothbore for hunting i would put another $100 with what that cost and order one from Bobby Christian from here on the forum. If you did buy it then have fun with it as they are a fun gun to shoot.

If you are just hunting and shooting, I think it would be fine. If you're in to Living History, I'd try to find one with at least a 42" barrel. The Italian guns are great shooters, and nicely made.

Hey Mulebrain,

You need to thaw out a little bit (great avatar). You should ask questions about a musket in the Smoothbore section, not the flintlock rifle section. Ain't no rifling in that barrel... :rotf: :rotf:

It would have depended on your reason for buying it (reenacting vs shooting). As the description states, it would have been for an artilerist or dragoon. The Pedersoli Bess is the best on the market, and I wouldn't trade mine for any other import.

Mr mule brain sir...
Check out www.dixiegunworks.com They have the full sized version in kit form for around 600 $$, I brought mine on a week long bush trip last week and it worked well until I stupidly jammed a c-6 cleaning tool in the touch hole and snapped it off "dont ask"..

But I also have a long land from loyalist...it is damn fantastic,..

I bought it for mainly shooting targets and such. I wont do any hunting with it.

I really liked the looks of it, and this one is used and already has a nice look to it! I generally will never buy a new gun.

The quality looks great, and will really go over it after it arrives

I think you'll enjoy that gun. I handled one at a local shop a while back, and really liked it but couldn't justify spending the money as it was pretty pricey for a new one.
