This question is from my husband.
I have a Pedersoli frontier rifle in flintlock, less than a year old. Love it. Took a deer with it Thursday. But today (Dec.5) while hunting, it started acting up. When you try to cock it to full cock, it wont stay cocked. But if you pull the set trigger, then cock it, it stays cocked. Took it apart in the field and couldn't find anything obvious wrong. Whats' up with that?

If the hammer won't stay cocked without setting the trigger, you have a misadjusted screw in the set trigger. The screw is turned too far in, pushing the trigger bar up too far, which will not let the sear engage the tumbler notch. Back your trigger adjusting screw (between the triggers) out a half-turn at a time until you can cock the hammer without setting the trigger. Then put some loctite on the screw so it doesn't move again.

DON'T mess with the screw behind the rear trigger. That one controls the tension on the rear trigger spring and is best left at the factory setting (unless it gets messed up, then go ahead).

sounds like you may either have powder or dirt in your trigger assy.take your lock off and trigger assy and wash them out with gun scrubber then oil. after you dry .also, inspect your trigger assy.by pulling back trigger front triggerand make sure it is working properly as you reassamble your gun, check the operation of each part for binding etc.when you re install the lock assy make sure you do not over tighten the lock bolts .you just want them a snug tight.if you over tighten the lock you could actually bend the lockplate causing the innards to bind on the plate or mortise. :m2c:
good luck

set screw has backed out in the trigger do the half turn setings discribed in first post should cure the problem .

ok all, he got it to work. thanks for all the helpful suggestions.
