This year at Mississinewa, a couple of friends and myself decided we wanted to throw a tavern/sutler of spirits concept out there in the Camp Follower section at the Battle of Mississinewa. So, we got busy looking up period tavern recipes and food, I made a sign based on an 1811 original, and we got busy brewing and making up other period drinks. It was well received by fellow reenactors and worked well in conjunction with the dance tent which was across the way from our location. We're looking forward to improving the concept in the future.
I made the sign from planks and used a milk paint for the background and lettering. No stencils.
We served ale, brandy, cherry bounce, and shrub
