Somewhere in the early 1990's , went to the Baltimore Gun show. One of the vendors was selling repro Springfield rifled muskets . I bought an 1842 .69 cal. , because I always wanted to experience shooting one. Made some Lyman "69" cal. Minnie's , and they were too small to fit the repro rifle's bore. A friend from the NSSA , civil war reenactment group found a small gunsmith shop somewhere in Northern Va. , that made exact fit 1842 barrels that could digest the Lyman .69 slug. The rifle turned out to be a superbly accurate rifle shooting those big slugs. Sadly , I always wanted to kill a deer w/ it , but the rifle is too heavy for me to carry , now that I'm old.
