Siamos… Something like this?Do any contemporary knife makers do a french siamois folding knife?
I figure a laguiole would be a modern second option but an original style would be nice.
It certainly has some of the styling of a siamois. I don't recall having ever read them being in antler though. Boxwood and beech were the go to's. There is every chance broken or damaged handles were reworked into an antler base.Siamos… Something like this?
Good looking knifeSiamos… Something like this?
Good looking knife
The slight falcata blade shape isn’t quite right for a Siamois.

I ended up going a different direction, I just ordered a Laguiole which is early 19th century. But one can never have too many knives!
I like your knives and there are very few people trying to create accurate representations. Keep at itI give up
It’s close but I don’t think we’d say it’s exactly the same. F has a continuous curve. Like I said yours seems to have a slight falcata shape which you don’t see on any of those examples. Unless it’s just the photo lighting.View attachment 175392
Not sure what to say…the shape is exactly same as F
Dan, that’s a nice looking folder! Very “believable” as a frontier knife. Much more than so many of the pure fantasy knives that are being offered to people these days by the big sutlers. Whether it is an exact copy of a French knife or not, it has the right “look” for a frontiersman to carry.Siamos… Something like this?
I now see what your referring to, thank you for pointing that out. I’ll double check the shape but I think it’s the angle I was holding knife and maybe the light reflecting off the bevel, I’ll take another picture this afternoon. It’s close but I don’t think we’d say it’s exactly the same. I’ve seen “clasp knives” mentioned several times in the period literature.
Are you planning to offer this one for sale?
Notchy Bob
They look great!I have made a few that are kind of close on blade shape
Opinel are from the 1950's. Nontron knives have been around since 16th century, I'm surprised there's not much reference to them in America during colonial French times. In my opinion the Spirit of the design is there,Ever OPIEL captures the SPIRIT of the design, althogh they add a locking ring, And Opiel has sold Millions of them. I Like a folder that LOCKS open, Had one fold on my fingers while using once,,NeverAgain. But evn I have a couple Oppies in my collection.Guess it just boils down to what the OWNER LIKES......Be Safe>>>>>>>>Wally
Thank you!Nice
