Do you need a lathe to turn those threads or are special tap and dies available from a special source or are they cut by hand very carefully with a small ratail file ,which I'm sure could be done but seems very labor intensive with a learning curve of horn wastage!?Pardon my impertanance, master, but I must know this to pass this portal to the next level.

Most of the guys that I know and myself included just use regular metal cutting taps and dies. A few do use wood dies for some projects. Just remember to use plenty of lube when you start cutting threads as horn is very easy to rip the new threads out as you are cutting.

My advice would be for you to check out over at THE HORNERS BENCH website and see how the members do it! Many examples and infornation there!
