Round ball for .58 caliber

I just ordered a Kibler Colonial in .58 cal smoothbore, and was wondering what size round balls I should get for that. Thanks ....

I purchased a couple bags of .570 to get started. Also a LEE .575 mold. I was looking for a .570 mold but couldn't find one. I haven't done any real testing yet, so I can't say which size is going to be best.
I predict you are going to love that rifle. I sure enjoyed shooting mine.

I have been shooting mine with 60 grains 2F, 1/8" nitro card, .570 round ball, with a overshot card.
I have had good success with this but have not tried and other size ball.

Somehow, I missed the "smoothbore" part of your post. (this could help explain some of my targets as of late)

You think maybe I should start with .562 round ball? I'm thinking maybe wad over powder plus wad over ball.

If you are going with wad I would try the .570 first. That would be similar to my nitro card and shot card. I have not tried toe as of yet. I have some but have been shooting the Woodsrunner and SMR instead.

I just cast 150 .575 RB from a Lee mold in anticipation of my Colonial being completed and ready to shoot next week. My pin gauge tells me that the 58 cal Green Mountain barrel bore is .581. So .575 seems about right.

I've tried .575 balls in my 58 smoothie, they were worthless when fired bare ball and they're too fat to patch! A .562 patched with .015"ticking works really good!

Same gun (but jug choked), 5 shots at 50 yards
