RE this old thread> SPP in place of Percussion Caps

Did any of you have any luck getting those to fire pistol/rifle primers? Was wondering how they would fire without a firing pin protrusion on the hammer face. I'm not out of caps or anything, and I have a couple of Mag-Sparks, but am always interested in alternatives and experiments. yellowhammer out

I have used spp quite a bit in the past prior to making my own caps. They work very well. I pre cut a bunch of tubing to hold the primers at the time. They were used on my 58 Remington.

Interesting. So the flat hammer surface imparts enough energy to cause the anvil in the cap to ignite the charge even without a firing pin-like protrusion.

With the news from my friends about half of a tin of caps failing to explode, small primer adapters may make a comeback. If you can get them.
