I’ve got two Renegade barrels that were rebored by Mr Hoyt to 58 caliber, 1-60 twist, radius bottom grooves, one each in flint and percussion. Have been putting time in with the flint. Last year at this time I was getting 2-1/4” groups or so off the bench at 100 yards.
After last hunting season, thought I’d try a Lyman 57 peep sight paired up with a Lyman globe front sight and suddenly I was consistently getting 1” or a tad better groups. 80 grains Swiss fff, .565 weighed roundball, denim patch material (nominal .022, compressed .0155) dry lubed 7:1. Basically following Dutch’s system (

Dr5x on the forum). Knowing what the barrel could shoot, I tried a partridge style rear sight with a wide front sight and surprised myself with a five shot group right at one inch recently. Now I have to see if this sight setup will work for in hunting conditions. Fingers crossed.
My suggestion is that when you get Bobby on the phone, tell him what you want to do and ask for his recommendation. He suggested the 1-60 radius bottom rifling I am using in my 58 caliber barrels, and I couldn’t be happier. Do as he says and the rest will be up to you. Here is a what the rifling looks like.
As far shipping, figure $15 when using the USPS. Have shipped two barrels in the past month through them without issue.
