Years ago I bought a reproduction Griswold & Gunnison cap and ball kit gun. I bought it from a place in Angleton, Texas. It is marked SMLS Co angleton texas on barrel. The pistol was made by Uberti. I have not seen any other Uberti like this. Is anyone familiar with this and is it a collectable and if so, what would it be worth?

In well over 30 years messing with lots of percussion revolvers I have not heard of the importer SMLS Co. Angleton, Texas.

In general, percussion revolvers made by a gun company like Uberti and marked with an importers name are not worth extra. There are probably exceptions to this. I would estimate your revolver to be worth what other same model Uberti kit revolvers in the same condition are worth. Without seeing it or knowing condition I would guesstimate $100 - 150.

If you can post clear, close up pictures that would help.

You might check the thread titled: 'Schneider & Glassick "Accidental" Replica' for a link to a percussion revolver collector site.

Back in the day, there were dozens and dozens of importers. Even the large retailers had their names on some of the guns they sold. I have a Zouave stamped Sears Roebuck & Co. (in addition to Antonio Zoli) Dixie sold Griswold and Gunnison repros for many years. The repro rev collectors site is doing a good job trying to document the different guns. It would be nice if the same could be done for long guns.

When i worked at a sporting goods chain the late 1970's, there were several dozen importers of black powder guns from all over the world. Guns made in China, Japan, the US, Spain, Italy and Belgium. FIE, EMF, Lyman, H&R, Ultra Hi, Hopkins and Allen, Numrich, Navy Arms, Century Arms, Western Arms, Euro Arms, Centaur, Markham, CVA, Garrett Arms, Sears, I seem to recall seeing a Western Auto stamped gun.
