Can somebody please tell me what length/diameter range rod I would need for a .50cal Hawken Woodsman? Sorry if its a dumb question but, i am a newbie after all. "Thank you in advance"
 
I like a good 4 or 5 inches longer than the internal barrel length. And like Mooman said, plan for the future.
 
I generally load with the wood underbarrel rod even at the range. I do have two excellent range rods, though and they are used mostly for cleaning. They are ss and maybe 1/4" or slightly less. They are strong and about 4' long so they work with any gun I own.
 
I make my range rods out of 3/8 brass rods. For 36 calibers I use 1/4 inch stainless!I always use a bore protector on my range rods.
