Wow! Love it! Looks like a high quality item! Probably a replica Trade Musket, as it is known that some were painted blue or red. You really got a nice item there! Interested to see what the peanut gallery has to say about it!

the indian head inlay was common on Chiefs Grade Trade Guns but this is definitely not a trade gun with the bands and steel rod was thinking Charleville musket style?

Its not a Charleville. It’s a creation of someone’s imagination. It has French and Spanish style musket parts. Belgian made as you already know.

That's not somebody's take on one of those African trade rifles, is it? Seem to remember reading on here and somewhere else about some that were made for women warriors and painted blue. A close look at that inlay and it rather looks like it could be a female rather than an American Indian.

Before typing further, I will say I am no expert and don't know a lot about military muskets. But ...

I don't see a female in that medallion.
I don't see African trade gun either.
Front barrel band looks to be old, and cleaned, as does the ramrod.
Inletting on the lock is well above tradegun crudeness, as is the buttplate.

I would venture a guess that it is a parts assemblage with an original barrel, which still has pretty crisp markings.

It could be a surplus American forward band, but the original brass sight looks as if it were replaced with a turtle sight. The rammer could be a M1840/42, it’s got the general shape. The barrel is 20th century with those more modern markings. Lockplates on trade guns that are still in good condition are not crudely inlet, and that lock is a modern lock.
Could you show pictures of the sideplate, buttplate, lower and middle bands?

The pic of the front band does have a brass turtle site. You can also see what appears to be pitting that has been well cleaned.

Second pic is the bottom band, third pic is the middle band.

It was not uncommon for people to build functional guns from old parts back when those old parts were unwanted surplus in junk boxes. I agree that front band does look like a cleaned up oldie.

Barrel and stock and hardware appear to be Belgian made.

It’s likely a 1970’s era made Stoeger replica, these were loosely based on the 1777 Charleville.

Lock is a chambers Jaeger round face Lock.

In its current state, i would describe it as a mystery trade gun, not a charleville or no longer a charleville.
