Picked up a nice vise on a local auction

A Simplex Gray 43S. From what I could find on the Net, I believe the vise was made between 1924 and 1931. Though not totally clear I think "gray" was dropped from the name when Desmond-Stephan took over the company. I then see reference to Desmond Simplex vises.

I paid $97...I think I got a good deal! 4 3/4" Jaw width 7" opening, weighs 75 pounds. Shown here after I cleaned the old grease and dirt off of it and mounted it to one of my benches. Not that I needed another vise but, hey...well, you all know!

Nice find, I have a lot of vices and half a dozen vyces of different sizes.

I have an old vise very similar to that.

It's been needing the jaw faces ground, so they mate better.
