I'm thinking about ordering a curly maple stock for my T/C Hawken from Pecatonica. Any of you guys that have done this before, how much work is involved? Will my lock and trigger fit right in or will I need to do some inletting? If so, what tools will I need to do this? Also if you have any suggestions for a wood that will look better than maple, I'm open to suggestions

Josh

If you'll ck on this site about 5 or 5 months back we had a handfull of these on, some real nice looking, as I remember how it went the only real work was the buttplate isnt cut. Fred :hatsoff:

I did this aout a year ago. As stated the tough thing is the butt plate. Nothing will just drop in. You will have to sand, fit, file, and sand and file a little more to make it fit. I think they say it is about 90% or so. Not difficult but not a no-brainer. I addition you will have to drll the hole that attaches the lock to the off-side of the stock and the tang screw. If you are careful you will be OK. Good Luck

can this be done without a drill press?
Does anybody have a pi of the finished product?

Thanks fellas. Yall sure made some purty guns outta them T/Cs. Who else makes a stock for T/Cs? and which one most resembles a real Hawken?

Josh

ya can order it at any stage of inletting, no lock inlet or have them inlet it....i had mine all inletted but the butt plate so i can make my own L.O.P.....they leave lots of wood fer any carving ya might want to do....if not ya gots some sanding to do....i don't have a drill press and got things done, just be careful....i got my stock fer the extra drop the stock had over the T/C stock as ya can see in the picture :v ...........bob

Davy your the master of pics and digging out old stuff on here the last few years, didnt we have a T/C fullstock up here at one time? Fred :hatsoff:

thats the main reason I want a new stock. T/Cs just dont fit me right. But if I'm gonna do it I kind of want to make it a little more like a traditional Hawken (at least as close as I can get with a T/C)

Josh

I used a Pecatonica stock for mine. I also wanted a little more traditional styling. So I pured a nose cap, installed a tow plate and entry thimble and used a traditional Plains rifle side plate.

Like someone already stated, the butt plate was the hardest. But it was a good experience. You can't go wrong with them. Good luck.

Do any of you fine folks have a T/C Hawken and an Investarms Hawken. If so, could you please do a quick side by side comparison for me? The reason I ask is that I have an Investarms Hawken and I know it's relatively close to the T/C but I don't know how close. I really want to restock it in some nice wood. Will the T/C stock fit as is? If not, which T/C parts will I need to use with it, if it's even possible. Many thanks in advance!

Thanks much , ran into that on our 3 HAWKEN RIFLE sites also. Fred :hatsoff:

So easy a Caveman could do it... :rotf:

Sorry, couldn't resist.
Bob
never underestimate the ineptness of a caveman when it comes to woodworking :nono: . But, if you have an old school chevy motor you need made into an @$$ kicking machine...well then I'm your man :winking:

Don't know for sure, but give them a call. The guy that runs it, can't remember his name, is VERY knowledgeable.

Zonie knows his name, maybe he can help.
