A friend at work has the metal detection bug and goes digging every week that he can and brought this side plate in to show me. He also found some copper and at least one silver coin which dated in the mid to late 1700's close by on the same land. Any idea how old and or what possible rifle or fowler this would came from?

That sure looks european to me, like on a gentlemans rifle, yeager or a fancy fowler,I'd like to know what happened to the rest of the weapon.

I was thinking European also the tricorn hats the men are wearing and the dogs chaseing the stag are neat looking

That's a neat find!

Now, Your friend needs to have a Jäger built around the sideplate. :rotf:

That's quite the find. I bet it would be worth a lot of money to one of the companies like TRS or Blackleys who make cast reproduction parts.
