Hello all, over the years I seem to have acquired a lot of hides and leather, deer, elk, and buffalo. I thought that I like to use these hides for bags, pokes, gun scabbards, etc. My problem is, I don't know where to start, are there some good reference materials for the beginner? Also sources for needles, sinew, and the like. Any info will be most appreciated.

hello well start by letting us know what you need is it how to lay out a pattern, stitch? or what are you wanting to make there are a lot of members here that will help you with anything you need

Tandy leather factory has a lot of good supplies. Infact I'm going to one of their store in the morning for some more supplies. I just use a little hand awl with waxed thread. Good luck with your projects!

Davy , sent you a link to one of the best sites I have found but here are two more you can glean a little info from.
A little info that I can offer from experience is, on the link that Davy sent there is info on the two needle method. In my opinion this is gave me a much more satisfactory stitching than the Tandy stiching awl did.
You were asking about supplies if you have a local Hobby Lobby, you can buy some items there that you will need.
Good luck to you and enjoy!

I think Chuck Burrows at "The Wild Rose Trading Post" has some good tutorials on his web site for leather stitching...
