I picked up a used Navy arms country boy in good condition. I have read all different types of recommended set ups for this rifle. I have decided to use Powerbelt 250 grain aerolite bullets, 100 grains of Hodgdon triple 7 pellets( 2 pellets ) and CCI magnum percussion caps to hunt elk this year. Anyone else use these or have any suggestions. Tha is in advance!

Being the new (basicly) guy here , i would ask "how accomplished are you with THIS rifle" ? As i am sure you know , elk season is not that far away ! Being what i am about in muzzleloading , i will take loose powder every time , and develop my best load to get the job done ! That being said , i still wish you the very best hunt , no matter what you'r set-up consists of !!!!!

Thanks for the reply. I have always hunted modern firearm so this is year one for muzzleloader. As I get more experienced I will probably join most guys whon hunt with powder.

you will not get much encouragement on them pellets or the powerbelt ammo around these parts
now if you can get a good group in your hunting range rock on, I suspect if you get it tuned in that load will do the job

Now however I posit that loose power and a 320 grain Maxi Hunter will get you a tighter group and a fast ethical kill with the right powder measure. Pretty hard to fine tune a powder load when you are limited to 50 or 100 grain pellets. What if your rifle prefers 85 Grains of 3f? Or 120 grains of 2f? Those pellets will never get you the accuracy that loose powder can get you.

As a matter of fact we don't discuss power-belt bullets nor loads for them.

9: We do not discuss copper and/or jacketed, plastic/polymer tipped bullets, sabots, power belts, or other 'plastic-wrapped' bullets. Smoothbores using plastic wads and steel shot are an exception to this rule.
