Is that the original ranrod? If so, can you please give me the diameter and length? The one I have is missing the ramrod. Having a devil of a time finding one that will go all the way into the stock. Thanks!

The ramrod is a shade under 5/16" or 8mm. The length is 26". The entry pipe is tight(5/16") on my rod(doesn't fall out), but the rod can be sanded some for a looser fit. A 5/16" rod won't easily go in a 5/16"hole. They have to be sanded or scraped to fit the entry pipe. Not to mention the hole in the wood. The pipes are about 3/8" so they aren't a problem. Most ordered raw rods are 48" so you can cut them to length and taper them to fit. Track of the Wolf has some finished rods for various brands. You might find one you can make fit there, but it is easier and cheaper to just make one.

Man, THANKS ! Mine had the same issues as yours - one wedge plate was missing, the other loose, missing ramrod. Hickory ramrod that small is worrysome to me. Tho the ramrod hole inside the stock is deeper, it's REALLY tight. I have a 48" fiberglass rod on hand but haven't cut it off in hopes of finding the correct replacement.

Almost wonder if the ramrod hole in the stock was drilled for the metal rod used in the longer barrelled zouave. Don't know. Tried to drill it out a bit, didn't really work.

Thanks again !!

I think the small-for-caliber ramrod was used because it doesn't take much effort to push an unpatched Minie or bullet down the bore.

I have a Buffalo Hunter with the original ram rod. It's barely 5/16 in diameter and the tip looks like a round mushroom with a dimple in the end. I don't use it just because it looks a little flimsy and is original instead I use a heavier wood range rod. Sometime in the rifle's life a peep site was installed which makes it real fun to shoot.
