Was reading the oil or candle thread. Anyone have instructions on tinsmithing your own tin/brass/copper candle lanterns, not from a kit? Always wanted to make a few.

Not to give a smart-a__ answer, but I just plastered a tin can with #6 shot and stuck a candle down inside of it...

It will work in a pinch until you can get a proper one made and its fun...

Here is a site that may be of help to you.
http://www.northwestjournal.ca/

Check under "Basic Tinsmithing" and "Making a Copper Trade Kettle" It does not show how to make a lantern but shows all the skills of tinning that can be used on whatever project.
Good luck and hope this is helpful !!!

Has anyone had success making mica windows for a lantern? Where did you get the mica and what type?
