FWIW, as a non-resident Maine hunter, I long ago quit entering the Maine Moose Permit lottery - I thought it a waste of money because I had entered for the previous 20 years and never got a sniff

I guess it was because the vast bulk of the permits are ( properly) reserved for Maine residents.

As a non Maine resident, the first time I put in a got a permit for a Bull.

Luck it is a lottery to make money for their moose program. Your chance of winning is likeany other lottery but you first must enter to play.

Even thinking I might go moose hunting compares (to me) with an ant hunting a possum.

I put in every year. Was lucky enough to go on a moose hunt in VT last year as a subpermittee. Hell of an experience that I would recommend to anyone. I pay my entry fee and dream of the hunt, that to me is worth the cost of the lottery.
