My wife bought me this long gun at an antique store. She was told it was "the rifle was found on a battlefield".
I think its a shotgun.
I cant find any ID marks on it, except for an IX or XI inside of the buttplate.
The stock is broken in 2 pieces.
Any idea what it is?
Id like to restore it and hang it on my wall.
Thanks!

Looks to possibly be a Savage model 1861 Made into a half stock. The butt doesn’t look right but it may have been cut to fit the shooter.

Is that a serious question?

You're going to restore it without the tools to take measurements of what you're restoring?
Yes. Thats exactly what Im going to do.
Ive restored about a dozen firearms. Never taken 1 measurement that wasnt on the wooden furniture.
