BLO is NOT a wood finish. Great waterproofer for canvas and the like, but not a wood finish.
You always hear the old adage….. once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year.
Not a way to finish a gun stock!
A builder would starve to death!
 
BLO definitely has to have a dryer added, that’s my experience.

Those that talk smack on BLO don't know anything about this. Simply adding Japan Drier makes BLO dry in a matter of hours. If hung in a hot box two or three coats can be applied in a day, rubbed down with scotchbrite or 3m synthetic steel wool between coats.

I prefer the aged open grain look of BLO on walnut, but use tru oil on all things maple.
