A small auction I attend frequently has a bunch of lead sinkers, seem to be nice soft "score it with fingernail" ones. Various sizes, but must be at least 15 or more lbs. It's a low-bidding auction, I should be able to score them (no pun intended!) for a small amt. tonight. My local club had forbidden shooting smooth-bore on the black powder range, but the new mgmt. allows it along with percussion pistol, just must keep it to 5 rounds in the cylinder. The previous mgmt. had oversight problems, people took money, paid no taxes, lost tax numbers, etc., the new mgmt. has turned it around. I have a newer casting pot, I think it's a Lyman.

For round balls , fishing weights will be fine even if slightly less than 100% pure lead.

What's up with the smoothbore ban ?

For generations locals mostly kids, would scour the site of the Fort Mims Massacre for lead ball and shot to make fishing sinkers.

Ouch! All those historic items gone to the fishes! I'll let y'all later today if I got the sinkers or not; left an absentee bid as I didn't want to sit around all evening for one item.

OK, I got the lead sinkers at auction and picked them up today. There are 25 lbs. of ass't. size sinkers, for just over 31 bucks with tax & fee. Included was a nice Craftsman brand tool bag for holding tools and such. Not bad, and I can make some "ingots" in the Lyman ingot molds.
