These pouches were common to the Nigeria and Great Lakes area in the late 1700’s and into the 1800’s. Some believe that the design came from the miser or stocking purses that were popular in the mid-eighteenth century. To open the pouch, open the flap and pull the laces through the flap. You can then get the items out of the pouch. To secure the pouch simply pull the laces tight and your items are secure in the pouch.
