Help with flask ID

This is a stock photo but I have a flask just like it. Is this a BP flask? Does anyone know anything about it? It has been in my family for many years.

Thank you! I always thought it was some kind of oiler. I wasn't too far off.

You were right the first time. It's an oiler for a MG 34, a pre WW2 German machine gun and was also used with the MG 43 and a few other guns. There are variations of this oiler that differ by who manufactured it but are basically all the same. Search for MG 34 oiler to see them. They have also been used post war by a lot of middle European countries and are quite common.

No one has called me on It yet but it should be MG 42 and not MG 43.
