Welcome to the forum. I think many were left in the White, so browning isn't required. It's an oft discussed topic.

The browning of the barrel came out reasonably well and I want it to look old so am really delaying as I have never taken a lock down to its parts and have been getting all the tools and researching as much as possible. Here is the barrel just before I oiled it but after it got its baking soda bath to stop the process:

Hello, neighbor! Took me a little over 2 months but I would work on it for a bit, then leave it to ponder it when I hit some challenges
