Very important that you load the ball/conical fully down on the powder. A space between powder and ball will now & again burst the barrel.
Not always, just often enough to remove parts of hands on occasion.

Contrary to those geniuses writing in Muzzle Blasts.

Welcome from the real Maine. Not that southern other Maine!

What city are you close to in the real Maine? I've made several trips to Maine for work. Pittsfield, Bethel, and Casco. Stayed in Naples when working in Casco. I want to come back someday for a driving vacation. Travel through Bangor and on to the north east area of the state.

Hey Folks thanks for having me. Just getting into muzzleloading, went a couple of times with a friend's rifle, now just got my own gun, given to me by a really nice neighbor. It's a T/C Pennsylvania Hunter percussion. I think he got it like over 30 years ago. Not much info on this rifle. Got the original manual and all the truck but going to be learning up on it. If anyone has any suggestions, loads, accessories, etc., all would be welcome. This is a 1:66 twist ball and patch, I think I can shoot conicals out of it if anyone has let me know. There were some 50 cal conicals came with it. Bought a box of Hornady .50 cal conicals say they are made specially for the 1:66 twist. Looking forward to perusing the forums.
Welcome to the forum, from Portland Maine. If you got questions I’m sure someone on here can answer it.
