Sold the NavyArms/Uberti 1858 Rem pistol I picked up last weekend for $125 for $200 today...it was not as smooth as the other 1858 Rem I have (Pietta)...action was stiff and cylinder pin seemed bent.

In turn I found a beauty T/C .50 cal Hawken for $200 otd.

Damn near as new condition...next lowest I could find at the show was $450 in same condition...new was $600!

Been wanting one for awhile!

Bore is excellent!

He wanted $225...I offered $200...was really shocked when he accepted!

Was only 15 minutes into the show...members get in 1/2 hour early.

I actually walked away from it...didn't want to buy anything that quick.

Did a powerwalk through the show scanning the tables.

(People looked at me like I was nuts) :youcrazy:

Practically ran back up front where it was...thought for sure it would be gone! :shocked2:

Think you made a good deal, nearly similar to mine with the Investarm Hawken.

Tell us how it shoots!

Now correct me if I'm wrong but now I can get different barrels if I wanted as long as made by T/C?

Like one in .45 or .54?
Just drop in?

Wow thats the price that you would expect with an older used CVA or Cabelas! Great deal!

Thanks all.

The general load I'm hearing is:

.490 ball
.015 patch
80 grs

Will it be ok to use FFFG Pyrodex P? (I have 5 lbs)

Or should I buy FFG?

 My grandpa used to say that "Even a blind pig finds an acorn now & then!" :rotf: Congratulations  and good shooting to you.

The chargwe is o.k.! I would also test with 75 and 90 grs and FFg!

Pyrodex P is ok, but I'd drop the load back to 70 or 75 gr.

And buy real black ffg.

nice looking rifle... for that kind of price you might be, as my Brother in Law would say, one helluva gonnif.

congrats!

make good smoke!

.015" patches will work well but in every TC barrel I've owned, the .490s do better with a tighter fitting combination and I went with .018" pillow ticking...the thicker patch also holds a little more lube, less chance of a patch failure with larger powder charges for deer hunting, etc.

The Pyrodex P will do fine...I used Pyrodex RS for years before switching to Flintlocks...a good plinking/target load is 40-50grns 3F. For deer hunting I use 90grns 3F.

While you're using up the "P" that you already have, if you have to buy some caps, I'd suggest getting CCI magnums...they're a good hot cap that sometimes is needed with the substitute powders.

Then as you reach a point where you need more powder, I'd also suggest you consider real blackpowder...Goex 3F is priced right, fast, clean, accurate and you'll never have to worry about delayed fires like sometimes occurs with the subs.

Enjoy!

Congratulations on your rifle, it sounds like you got a pretty good deal on a pretty nice hunting rifle.

The GM replacement barrels are excellent, but I'm not sure you can get a .54 unless you buy a 1" barrel, and you probably don't have that. That's not a problem however, because that .50 is more than enough for deer and will handle anything on the continent as long as you load it right and choose your shot.

Again, congratulations on your new gun, you done good.

:hatsoff:

I would say you bought it about 125.00 below the average price for a good used T/C Hawken
