Here in East Texas weve been catching heck with all of the rain. ive got some good boars coming in to my spots. with all the rain and humidity is a flintlocks enemy. before this boar came in I had 2 groups of around 30 hogs came in the second time there was a fat sow I intended to shoot. I was sweating my flintlock was sweating, I got in a hurry and forgot to check on my 4f powder in the pan, when the fat sow was at 11 or so yards I squeezed the trigger and nothing. I pulled the frizzen back and my powder hd moisture in it looked aboul like ovr moist potting soil.
i cleaned my pan and reprimed. about 20 minutes the boar came in looking for a lady at around 15 yards I lined my .50 caliber flintlock up loaded with 80 grains 3f olde eynesford and a 370 gr tc maxiball squeezed the trigger he dropped got up and made 40 yards. I did not get a pass through the tc maxiball was stuck in the opposite sholder, he was slightly quartering away and I took both lungs out
