Here's a picture or two of a folder I'm building. It's my first knife. The blade is made from a 1.5" band saw blade. I just ground it to shape. I'm going to add a brass bar to the tang. The handle is made out of some tropical hardwood. Umbuya I think? It I milled the inside for the blade clearance and plan on gluing the two half's together. I think it will polish up nice.

That's very nice. Did you mill the brass pin to that shape or buy it that way? That wood should look really good with a bit of finish on it. :v

Powder Keg that is really a nice job. It looks like you might be on your way to making more in the future. I find knife making a satisfying hobby and I think you will too.

Great! Another hobby :rotf: :rotf:

I made the pin on my small lathe. I plan on making a rivet for the other hole. The handle is a bit bigger that I wanted, but it fits my fat little fingers nice. That wood has lots of grain to it. I'm thinking about a natural oil finish. My wife thinks this one is hers :rotf:

Thanks for the compliments, people. I have a question pertaining to this style of knife. The pin is a good fit on the blade and there is only about .010" clearance between the blade and the wood. The blade seems loose? Is there something that is used to keep the blade from falling open or is this just the way these are? Just wondering?

Thanks, Wes

Wes, these knives should stay either open or close by friction alone. The friction is adjusted by the pivot or hinge pin. You might need to place a thin shim bewteen the tang and handle. Just my humble opinion.

Joe

Ok, I'll thin the gap between the two sides of the handle before I glue it together.

Thanks, Wes
