Finished my .54 GPR this evening. A few things here and there I could have done better, but overall I am pleased with the result. Can't wait to go burn some powder. Thanks to everyone for their tips and advice.

Thanks. I used the Naval Jelly trick on the nose cap to make it look like tarnished silver or pewter. I did the same with the wedge pin plates also to break up all that brown a bit. I also tarnished some brass #2 screws and used them to mount the plates for something a little different. The rest of the metal is a combination of LMF Brown and Plum Brown. I used LMF stains on the wood and finished it with boiled linseed oil cut with mineral spirits. It's got two coats on it now. I figure I'll rub in another coat every once in a while.

Mike,

You did a good job on your rifle. Let us know how she does at the range.

Took it to the range today. I was getting 4" groups off the bench at 100 yards without a rest using patches made from WalMart pillow ticking, 1/7 Ballistol/water for patch lube, Hornady .530 roundballs, and 90 grains of Pyrodex. I need to file the front sight a little to bring to point of impact up, but otherwise I am satisfied. With a few more balls down the barrel to break it in, and a little more practice on my part I think maybe 3" groups might be possible.

Mike , they say the proof is in the shootin. Sounds like you built a good one and definitely looks good.

Nice job
