Try Basspros or Cabelas. May be a ways but if you are ever out that way you could swing by. They don't keep it out by law so make sure you ask the manager. Regular floor people often don't know so they say no without checking.

Yes. Federal law requires that all real black powder in a store must be kept in a special approved, locked storage box. It can only be carried around in a store for delivery to the customer. That's why people will never see a can of GOEX or Swiss powder sitting on a shelf along with the other gunpowders.

Because technically Pyrodex, 777 and the other synthetic muzzleloading powders are not "explosives", they can be out on the shelf.
That's why, like mooman76 says, a lot of the employees in a gun or sporting goods store won't know they have or sell real black powder.
The store owner or manager should know though.

They can if they want to. They also could get empty, washed out cans that held real black powder and sit them on the shelf but unless they were shooters who used up the black powder the can once contained, that isn't very practical.
Besides, if they sit an empty can on the shelf, some clerk would probably sell it to a customer and most customers might get upset when they got home and found they had bought an empty can.

I don't think they care that much. I'm sure selling BP isn't a big money maker. Some actually do put an MT bottle out but that is rare.
