Have about a half pound of Swiss 3f given to me to try out. Have only shot Goex 3f in the past. Is there a "general rule of theumb" about how much powder to use of Swiss compared to Goex. Thought I read somewhere that you use a little less of the Swiss??? Figured I would try some loads to see how the Swiss compares to Goex. Most of my Goex loads are 50 or 60 grains. Thanks

About 15% less Swiss to Goex is the general rule that I have heard. Swiss is a hotter powder no doubt, just for fun two loads or the same charge first the Goex than the Swiss, you will notice the difference in the recoil! Aim at the same target, you will probably also note a significant difference in ball stike as well between the two.

Try different loads and compare point of impact until they match. Then you will know more than most of us :rotf:

When I first started shooting Swiss I heard about reducing the load. I didn't really believe it so I just loaded my rifles as I had always done.

Sure enough. They shot high on the targets indicating that the velocity was notably higher.

After reducing the loads about 10 percent the guns started hitting the target where it does with GOEX.

The Swiss powder also doesn't foul the bores as much as the other brands of powders did.

Is Swiss worth the money?
Well, reducing the powder load size does save money but when the powder costs several dollars more than the other powders I don't see any savings.

You might want to read my posts in "Shooting Accessories", "Swiss Powder", just posted. I guess 120 grains of Swiss 1 1/2 or Swiss 2 gave about the same velocity as 140 grains of Goex 2F. But Swiss is a dirty, bore-caking fouler! One shot and you can hardly seat a ball, a couple and you can't get the ball fully seated. It taught me to wipe after ever shot, I had to.
