I have found these to be pretty fun to make.

Walnut handle, blade came from a very, very old saw blade (hardened and tempered of course). The box is made of mahogany, lined with black leather.

My work may not hold a candle to many of your guy's work, but I have fun with it.

Thanks for taking a look!

Dewd, that's some fine craftsmanship. What did you use to cut the knife blank out of that saw blade?

Thank you much.

If cutting out the blank from a large piece of steel, I use an angle grinder. The piece of steel I made this blade out of was a smaller scrap and was soft enough to cut and shape with files. Strange to think that steel for a saw blade would be that soft, but I believe it was for an industrial bandsaw (6" cross section), and they likely did not want to have blades crack during use. It took a very good heat treat though.

A lot of the older saw blades were of good quality high carbon steel -- newer saw blades not so much!
