Greetinga all.
I thought I'd tap the collective wisdom of all you culinary sages :master: for your tips/thought on camp bread. both with and without dutch ovens; both levened and unlevened.
I'm curious about plank bread, but I suspect that the most authentic camp bread would be some sort of flat, unlevened pan bread.

My Brother once found an original recipe for Johnny cake. It appeared to be something like a modern day corn bread made from flint corn. We tried it. We used real flint corn and ground it in a stone bowl with a pestol and everything. We determaned that the mountain man either had a very different palet than we do or he had to be really hungry to eat this stuff. It had very little or no taste and it had the texture of a hand full of sand packed together with flower and milk. ::
