It looks to me like an inexpensive single-barrel fowling piece from the mid to late 19th century. The “shotgun” butt, octagon-to-round barrel, and no visible rear sight suggest a smoothbore. I could easily be wrong, but I’m speculating that it may be Belgian. I think back-action locks were more common on Continental than British guns, and the snail doesn’t look British to me, although the scrolled grip rail on the triggerguard and the simple washer for the lock bolt might suggest some British influence. It would be great to see photos of proofmarks or any other stampings on the barrel.
It’s hard to be sure, but those are my impressions. I’m no expert.
Thanks for showing it!
