AF stain question

Hi all, this is my Kibler xtra fancy maple stock after 1 application of Jim's aqua fortis stain. Any opinions on the color? Does it look right?

Looks good to me, just need to blush it with a heat gun, and re-apply and repeat the heat blushing. I was happy after 2 coats

This has been blushed and i'm not getting the reddish tint that's my question. I got it very hot.

Unfortunately, you won't really be able to tell what the color will be until you start applying the oil finish.

I used Jim's Iron Nitrate on a stock, I found this picture but I can't remember if it has been blushed or not, usually they turn brown when I blush them.

Do a test in the barrel channel or under the buttplate to see if you have the color you want, apply the iron nitrate, blush and put a coat of finish on to see what you have.

It ended up like this;

You are probably good, it really pops after finishing. First pic is after blushing, second after one coat of finish

Like Eric said, test under barrel with finish.

This is my only attempt with aqua fortis. My jaeger which I finished about 20 years ago. It gets much attention at the range, for some unknown reason.

I think your stock should be a lot darker after AF application and then heating with a heat gun. I can't imagine why yours is this light. When I've done it, the darkening of the wood when heated has been DRAMATIC.
