A Nice Piece of Walnut

My next project is off to a good start. This piece of Claro walnut came from Cecil Fredi in Las Vegas, Nevada. $150 plus shipping. It's has the same grain and color on both sides. Great service and a good price plus he's great to deal with. The barrel is a 36 caliber Douglas (we think, it's unmarked) that was never used. It should turn out to be a nice little half stock squirrel rifle. That is if I don't turn it into stove wood. That's the stock layout as it came, definitely not the one I'll be using.

EDIT: I should add that he doesn't do long rifle stocks so there's no use in bothering him with calls about that.

PS: Pedersorry walnut is in the lower left part of the plank. Half of my 1766 Charleville stock was sap wood.

None of the sapwood will be in the stock. Never heard of Pedersorry walnut but I think I've seen plenty of it.

If I do turn it into stove wood you sure won't hear about it! That's the trouble with starting out with a beautiful piece of wood. There are so many ways to blow it. Hopefully, I'll be the only one who knows where the mistakes are lurking and I can guarantee there will be something that I wish I had done a little different.
